Tips to Get Rid of Ants

Ants are the common party crashers, found everywhere, especially during summer. Getting rid of ants is the key to have a happy summer. Ants are not only annoying but they also ruin things that you keep in the kitchen. During the warm months ants tend to make their homes in your house, in search of food source and slowly they make your home their gathering. You need to make a concentrated effort to keep these uninvited guests away.

The best way to get rid of ants is to destroy the queen because it has a capacity of reproducing in a large number. By killing her you will be able to eliminate all of them. You should always keep the kitchen top and the other surfaces clean so that there are no foods lying that can attract the ants.  You can keep the kitchen surface clean by wiping it with some mild bleach or vinegar. Regular vacuum also keeps your house away from ants. The sink and dishes in the kitchen should be kept clean so that there is no standing water or food for the ants to party. Air tight containers in the kitchen keep your food fresh and also away from ants.

You can use chalks made of gypsum to avoid ants. Cornmeal is the best weapon to fight against ants as it is safe and non-poisonous. Vinegar, peppermint, cloves, black pepper etc are also some anti ant’s agent. You can also sprinkle baby powder around the area where you don’t want ants to come, may be on the pantry shelves or near your pets food. Use of baby powder prevents ants and it also smells better, than some insect spray. You can also keep some bay leaves in the area where you would like to avoid ant. You can also make a mixture of sugar, warm water and borax household cleaner and keep it in the ant infested area.  Planting mint around the house especially near the entrance will protect your house from ants, as these pests hate the smell of mint.
