The Goodness Of Sunlight

Excessive exposure to sun can be damaging for your skin, but at the same time how can you ignore the fact that exposure to sun helps to generate Vitamin D in our body. Vitamin D is one of the essential nutrients which our body requires for various reasons. It helps our bones to grow stronger and to prevent diseases like osteoporosis. It can also ward off the risk of cancer or other infections, by increasing the immunity of our body. Vitamin D works for the brain to take care of the problems like dementia, depression etc. In addition to that, it also helps our heart and teeth to get stronger and healthier. However with the regular use of sunscreen lotion and by seriously avoiding the sun, we are not being able to generate sufficient vitamin D and thus causing a great harm to our body.

So, what is the way out for this problem? You cannot allow your skin to get burnt and accept all the damaging effect of sunlight, for generating the vitamin D. According to scientists, depending upon the geographic location you can sit under the sun for 10 to 15 minutes during the day time. Now the concept of geographic location is very important in this case. There are some places on earth which receives brighter sun in comparison to other places. If you think the sun is too bright and warm, that you cannot tolerate then you should not be out. To solve this confusion, the best thing would be to enjoy the sun at the early hours of the day. In fact you do not need to be enjoying the sun on a regular basis; just 2-3 days in a week will be enough to produce the required amount of vitamin D in your body.

To enjoy the sun in such a restricted way, you will not require sitting or lying on a beach. You can simply take a morning walk in your garden or some nearby park or at any open place. Just make sure that you get soaked into the sun. In case you are into your beachwear, your whole body will receive the sunlight and hence you may cut down the time under the sun to 7-8 minutes.
