Do long distance relationships work?

We all agree that relationships are quite difficult to maintain and when your partner is living far away (other town,or country ) - things can really get difficult.I have seen many relationships breaking due to the distance between the partners. Many of my friends believe that if you know your partner well, distance does not matter...but is this true? Do things remain the same when your regular datings are replaced by phone calls, sms's and chats only? I have seen many couples split because they start to feel that they no longer share the thoughts, feelings and concerns....a few years down the line, they start realizing that distance is the culprit, but then you do not have much to do!

Recent studies have proved that in a long distant relationship the levels of intimacy, trust and commitment slowly starts deteriorating as partners slowly learn to develop a habit of living without one another. This might sound harsh, but this is one of the cruelest truths with which all of us will agree at some time or another. The need and desire to see one another and spend time together starts receding and this is when the problem begins!

In spite of all these, long distance relationships are on a rise-couples try every possible trick to keep the relationship alive.So...quickly, here are a few things which you can do to keep your relationship sweet.

Clarify all your expectations - Setting rules is good - you can stay focused and know when you are slipping. Your relationship shall also get a new hope and you will always look forward to something.

Trust - this is what shall keep your relationship alive. Be prepared for no face to face communication for months - this is where trust comes and believe me, sometimes, its really tough to keep your trust in your partner. If you are able to trust, you will surely sail smoothly through the rough patch.

Show your interest in one another always - through online dating, chats or even emails.

Last but not the least, be positive always and keep faith!
